Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum said:
“With public outrage growing and a mayoral campaign heating up, the city now has
second thoughts about charging rent to the homeless. It’s disturbing that 500
homeless families were solicited for rent—-but even worse, over a third of those
notices contained errors, and many families were overcharged. Instead of putting
a ‘positive spin’ on the administration’s failed homeless policies, the city
should immediately refund these families and end this senseless
practice.”

On a similar topic, regarding "spin" and government: Are these scattered "small explosions" around the city -- such as the one on East 92nd Street, smashing Statbuck's windows, this weekend -- real, or "mock simulations" by NYPD et al to scare the populace into advocating for street video surveilence (and push back ACLU concerns)? As a crime victim myself, I am not particularly adverse to video surveilence on NYC streets; but I am severely adverse to NYPD et al minipulating the public's emotions via such potentially applied tactics.
