"I am deeply troubled by the findings of Comptroller Thompson’s audit, which exposes
the city’s failure to collect fines from property owners who neglected the safety of their tenants and properties. After last year’s crane collapses, I warned that more oversight and accountability were needed to deter unsafe practices at construction sites and in buildings. Not only is this a threat to the safety of New Yorkers, but it's revenue lost at a time when the city cannot afford it", said Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum.
