Today, Betsy released a new survey of city STD clinics that showed that city clinics were often unable to provide important services and information to New Yorkers.
In NYC, free city-run clinics are set up to diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. But as Gotbam's report shows, rapid HIV tests are only available at one of the 10 city clinics.
Betsy Gotbaum said, “It is critical that we reduce any and all barriers to STD screening and testing. Public clinics are an invaluable resource to uninsured individuals who may be unable to afford care elsewhere, and while I’m pleased to see some improvements have been made, we must do more to improve access to services at STD clinics.”
Read the full findings and recommendations. The recommendations primarily target DOHMH's management of city STD clinics, but also include recommendations that the DOE mandate sex education in all high schools citywide. Watch the video below.

Although the transmission of sexual diseases are a common issue and not pleasant in our society, so I think the least we can do is to provide good clinical information in this regard.
